How 3G (W-CDMA / UMTS) Works

This time division is based on duplex approach where uplink and downlink traffic transmit in different time slots. This synchronization gives flexibility to the spectrum for uplink and downlink transmission depending on symmetrical or asymmetrical information. Asymmetrical information comprises e-mail and internet applications while call system comes under symmetrical information. During asymmetrical applications downlink is given preference over uplink. Preference is given to uplink during telephony.
