Desk Area Network – What is DAN, How DAN Works

DAN (Desk Area Network) is an interconnection of computer devices around the ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode). This exchange of information between various peripherals and CPU is based on the transfer of ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) cells mainly. DAN (Desk Area Network) enables the network to share resources over the network. It also provides the access to foreign devices. This system enables to form A/V connection. DAN (Desk Area Network) consists of A/V softwares. This software has four main layers. This software is intelligent enough to guide and support the A/V devices. It works on a simple process, when we on a VCR. And put a cassette into it, it is automatically connected to the monitor. VCR and other related devices are often connected to the network in order to built DAN (Desk Area Network).

Use of ATM in DAN

ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) is a name given to a very high speed networking protocols. ATM stands for asynchronous transfer mode. ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) was designed for the convenience of inter service providers. These organizations mange the cost attached with its infrastructure over along geographical area. ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) is protocol which functions at the data link layer, of the open system interconnections model (OSI). ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network is developed by using optical fiber or even copper cables sometime. The use of ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) in the DAN (Desk Area Network) architecture supports. ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) cells allow the smooth flow of data. ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) cells allow the complete control and transfer over the network. The use of ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) allows the efficient and fast flow of data, as the ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) based network provides high bandwidth. Communication in DAN (Desk Area Network), How DAN works

DAN (Desk Area Network) network can be established using device to device connection or CPU to device connection. Communication through the DAN is based on the principal of data transfer in the form of packets. The architecture of DAN (Desk Area Network) is machine specific. When a typical cell is transferred across any network it reaches its destination directly. Therefore the reliability and efficiency is more than others of its type. The network interface of this network is simple and easy to operate once developed. The data flow in this network is connection dependent, hence it serves two purposes. First of all, the routing information travels from the source to its ultimate destination. Secondly the context is present at the other point of the network. Therefore this reliable machine network provides enough security to the data.

Devices used in the DAN architecture

DAN (Desk Area Network) apparatus has an audio and video machine, some presentation nodes are attached to it. Along with the presentation nodes DSP (Draft Standard Point) node and an additional processor and memory is also attached to it. CPU node is attached to run stream of cache ideas. The network of the DAN (Desk Area Network) is really complex but one can make use of ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) in order to simplify its working. The CPU node is comprised of ARM 600 processor and 256 additional cache memory. This memory helps to provide a connection to ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) fabric. The cache memory here acts as write back, because it removes the filthy cache line and will bring the new one. The request cell present here will only bring the intended address and the write access. Demonstrator is used to handle the multimedia access of DAN (Desk Area Network) and its cache traffic. The minimum request time is 2 cells for a reply request process when a CPU node is interacting with memory. DAN (Desk Area Network) cache controller helps in the division of fixed size region of cache. The region of the cache is fixed. This cache controller moves the ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) cells between the controller and the DAN (Desk Area Network) interconnect. This physical structure helps direct device and CPU contact. It can be used to implement space distribution switch fabric. It enables to establish an uncomplicated and efficient (in terms of bandwidth) ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network.
