It is not available worldwide so ultimately large number of users prefers to switch on the GSM.
Cheap VS Expensive
GSM is a cheap service so economic on the user’s pocket. As GSM is globally effective and cheap a swell so is preferred on CDMA. CDMA is comparatively costly service and is not available worldwide. It is still restricted to some countries dominantly in American territories.
Now-a-days mobiles are rapidly replacing PCs and laptops, so large amount of data transfer requirement is increasing in mobiles. In this regard, CDMA is one step ahead than GSM. However competition is still continued.
SIM Cards VS R-UIM Card
GSM technology is operated through SIM card. Any cell phone with SIM pocket can start receiving signals. The card has connection with the network. You don’t need to change the set just the activation of SIM required from the regional network operator. It configures with the area network and starts working.
CDMA phones have R-UIM card which has limited network in United States and parts of Asia. CDMA is enabled through phone sets. Once a phone is activated it has linked to only one network. If user wants up gradation they have to change phone set at the cost of old one.
GSM as stands for global system so is providing the phone facility to worldwide. Its aim is to target both advanced and rural areas while CDMA is aiming high and restricts to only American states and parts of Asia leaving completely rural areas.
Here CDMA wins the title. As CDMA claims code division multiple access. User has a specific frequency which he or she can use confidently as code is apply on the frequency in the spread spectrum. Only intended user can decode the information. This mode provides extra security and is beneficial for the users who are attached with the sensitive fields like military etc.
GSM is more mature network than CDMA. As it is in the field from the past many years and is stabled. CDMA is in its infancy, however, it is showing more tendency for the future and can stand alone having niche in cellular market.
